In a statement, she said: “By purchasing low calorific coal at $35 more than the cost of high calorific coal, the TNEB, which is already running at a loss, is being subjected to further loss. In rupee terms this works out to a loss of Rs 1,575 per tonne.” The AIADMK leader said the free on board (f.o.b) value of high calorific value coal from Indonesia is only $65. Adding shipping and freight charges of $20, the landed cost of high calorific coal from Indonesia is only $85. She added that the cost of coal from South Africa is even lower.via
